Frequently Asked Questions

At Oconee River Dachshunds, we value transparency and want you to feel confident about the puppy you are welcoming into our home! If you have any additional questions, please let us know!

What health testing do you do?

We take health testing seriously and use a combination of tools to guide our decisions, including:

  • AKC DNA profiling and genetic testing

  • Pedigree review

  • Age-appropriate OFA-recorded evaluations, such as heart, patella, and eye exams

  • Routine veterinary care and ongoing monitoring

Some testing is completed as dogs mature, and we’re transparent about what has been done and what is still in progress.

What kind of temperament do you focus on?

We prioritize stable, confident temperaments that do well in family environments.

Temperament is evaluated through everyday interaction, handling, and observation over time. We also focus on early socialization and thoughtful exposure to help puppies grow into well-adjusted companions.

Every dog is an individual, and we’re honest about what we see.

Are your dogs AKC registered?

Yes. Our foundation dogs are AKC registered, and we are building a conservative AKC line focused on health and predictability.

In the future, we may also work with CKC dogs for companion-focused lines, while maintaining the same standards for health and temperament.

Will you have a waitlist?

Yes, we have an open wait list, with a tiered structure that you can submit to at any time. Although paid waitlist options are open, we do not collect deposits prior to puppies being delivered and evaluated.

Waitlist fees do not apply to cost of puppy. See Waitlist page for more details.

How much will your puppies cost?

Pricing will be shared clearly once litters are planned.

Our pricing reflects the care, testing, and time invested in each puppy. We believe in being upfront and transparent so families know what to expect.

Please see our Pricing page for general pricing information.

Do you offer delivery or shipping?

Yes. Pickup and delivery options will be available. Our priority is always the safety and well-being of the puppy and clear communication with families.

Please see our Delivery policy, under the policies page for more details.

What kind of homes are you hoping for?

We love working with families who:

  • Value health and responsible breeding

  • Appreciate open communication

  • Are excited to welcome a dachshund into their home

  • Believe their pets are FAMILY.

If you have questions or aren’t sure whether we’re the right fit, we’re always happy to talk.

PLEASE, if you ever purchase a puppy from us and feel as if you are unable to care for them, we will take them back! No questions asked!

Can we meet your dogs?

Yes. Visits are considered on a case-by-case basis and when appropriate. We prioritize maintaining calm routines and safe environments for our dogs. We are always willing to FaceTime for you to see our puppies!

How can I stay updated?

Once a deposit is placed, we will update you weekly about your puppy! This will include weekly pictures and updates on milestone, health and temperament!

You’re welcome to follow along on social media or check back on our website for updates. We share progress and information as it becomes available.
